Assistant Professor, Social or Developmental Psychology – Adelphi University 

The Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies seeks applicants for an Assistant or Associate Professor level tenure-track position in Social or Developmental Psychology or Social Developmental Psychology. Ideally, the candidate scholarship will address issues relevant to cultural, cross-cultural, or ethnic-specific psychology. The position is anticipated to start end of August 2017.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach primarily undergraduate courses, in particular social psychology. developmental psychology, statistics/research methods, and courses relevant to the theme of ethnic-specific, cross-cultural, and/or community-based topics. Preference will be given to candidates who conduct community-based research emphasizing African American, Latino, Asian American, Native American, or immigrant populations, research with implications for social justice and applied issues, culture, disparities, diversity or discrimination etc. and an openness toward multi-disciplinary, interdisciplinary and/or collaborative research.

The Derner Institute (derner.adelphi.edu) includes an APA-approved Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts in Undergraduate Psychology, a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience, Master degrees in General Psychology, School Psychology, and Mental Health Counseling, and a post-graduate program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. The primary appointment will be in the Undergraduate Psychology Department, but the candidate may also be asked to teach courses in our M.A. and Ph.D. programs. The successful applicant is expected to establish an active research program, to have a strong interest in initiating and guiding undergraduate student research, and to potentially engage in collaborations with other faculty. Excellence in teaching is required.

Applicants for the position must have a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree from an accredited institution by Aug. 8, 2017. Candidates must also demonstrate a record of scholarship and strong teaching potential/experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
