Relationship researchers use a diverse array of methods and approaches to study interpersonal relationships. Although our research frequently takes the form of laboratory studies, relationship researchers also use field studies, self-report surveys, online data collection, analysis of archival data, and measurement over longer periods of time. Techniques used in our research include experimental manipulation, survey data, daily diary studies, behavioral observation, couple interactions, speed-dating paradigms, interviews, and physiological data.
